Acestui Mihu\u0163u, prezentat succesiv ca arom\u00e2n, ca macedo-rom\u00e2n, ca rom\u00e2n macedonean sau ca rom\u00e2n din Macedonia, Matila Ghyka \u00eei datoreaz\u0103 \u00ab&nbsp;multe am\u0103nunte despre istoria \u015fi folclorul Macedoniei \u015fi Epirului&nbsp;\u00bb pe care le reia pe larg \u00een memorile sale. \u00ab&nbsp;Datorit\u0103 lui, m-am ini\u0163iat \u00een \u00eencurcata problem\u0103 a rom\u00e2nilor din Macedonia care, la acea vreme, sub ochiul amuzat al Turciei, f\u0103cea mult s\u00e2nge r\u0103u Rom\u00e2niei \u015fi Greciei&nbsp;\u00bb (p. 102-103), comenteaz\u0103 viitorul diplomat a c\u0103rui memorii au fost scrise la mijlocul secolului al XX-lea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Axa Epir-Principate&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interesant este c\u0103 Mihu\u0163u face o distinc\u0163ie destul de net\u0103 \u00eentre&nbsp;<em>arm\u00e2ni<\/em>, numi\u0163i macedo-rom\u00e2ni, \u015fi&nbsp;<em>rrr\u00e2m\u00e2ni<\/em>, numi\u0163i epiro\u0163i&nbsp;:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab&nbsp;De altfel, \u00eencep\u00e2nd din secolul al XVII-lea, avea loc o imigrare ne\u00eencetat\u0103 de macedo-rom\u00e2ni spre principatele din nordul Dun\u0103rii&nbsp;; veneau s\u0103 fac\u0103 avere, se c\u0103s\u0103toreau adesea cu fete de boieri rom\u00e2ni \u015fi cur\u00e2nd au \u00eenceput s\u0103 reprezinte o parte considerabil\u0103 din mica boierime \u015fi din intelectualitatea din ceea ce avea s\u0103 devin\u0103 Regatul Rom\u00e2n. Un alt val, paralel, de imigran\u0163i din Balcani vorbind aceia\u015fi limb\u0103, venea din Epirul de Sud (\u2026). Aveau spirit de aventur\u0103. Unii se duceau s\u0103-\u015fi caute norocul la Vene\u0163ia, unde intrau \u00een garda albanez\u0103 a dogilor ori f\u0103ceau comer\u0163, dar un num\u0103r \u015fi mai mare trecea Dun\u0103rea \u015fi ace\u015fti epiro\u0163i stabili\u0163i ca negustori ori arenda\u015fi \u00een&nbsp;\u0162ara Rom\u00e2neasc\u0103 sau \u00een Moldova se c\u0103s\u0103toreau cu fete din mica boierime de \u0163ar\u0103 (c\u0103s\u0103toria cu o \u2018\u2019fat\u0103 de boier\u2019\u2019 era modalitatea cea mai direct\u0103 de a dob\u00e2ndi imp\u0103m\u00e2ntenirea \u00een cele dou\u0103 principate) \u015fi se asimilau complet p\u0103str\u00e2nd totu\u015fi, ca \u015fi macedo-rom\u00e2nii, \u00eensu\u015firile particulare de rezisten\u0163\u0103 \u015fi de curiozitate intelectual\u0103&nbsp;\u00bb (pp. 102-103).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De mai multe ori, Matila Ghyka revine pe acest punct, aparent pentru el Epirul ocup\u0103 un loc aparte. El nu pare s\u0103 se fi mul\u0163umit de altfel cu informa\u0163ile ob\u0163inute de la interlocutorul s\u0103u, \u015fi face propria lui anchet\u0103. A propos de Valahia, el precizeaz\u0103 de la bun \u00eenceput \u00eentr-o not\u0103&nbsp;: \u00ab&nbsp;Deja cronicarii bizantini \u00eei numeau&nbsp;<em>vlahi<\/em>&nbsp;pe macedo-rom\u00e2ni, cunoscu\u0163i de cronicarii francezi ca&nbsp;<em>blas<\/em>, aceia\u015fi r\u0103d\u0103cin\u0103 cu&nbsp;<em>olah<\/em>&nbsp;(termen folosit de unguri pentru vecinii de la R\u0103s\u0103rit)&nbsp;<em>walah<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>w\u00e4lsh<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Wallon<\/em>\u2026&nbsp;\u00bb (P. 23.) \u00cen mai multe r\u00e2nduri el se refer\u0103 la \u00ab&nbsp;fenomenul de chimie etnic\u0103&nbsp;\u00bb care a dat na\u015ftere at\u00e2t rom\u00e2nilor, pornind de la daci \u015fi \u00eentr-o oarecare m\u0103sur\u0103 de la slavi \u015fi cumani c\u00e2t \u015fi macedo-rom\u00e2nilor pornind respectiv de la traci \u015fi, \u00een cazul epiro\u0163ilor, de la iliri (p. 102, 468).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dup\u0103 prima \u00eent\u00e2lnire pe \u00ab&nbsp;Elisabeta&nbsp;\u00bb, singurul cruciz\u0103tor de care dispunea Regatul Rom\u00e2n, ei se vor revedea tot \u00een Dobrogea, de dou\u0103 ori \u015fi vor colabora cu acela\u015fi entuziasm&nbsp;: o dat\u0103 \u00een 1906, c\u00e2nd Mihu\u0163u preda naviga\u0163ia la \u015fcoala de marin\u0103 din Constan\u0163a (p. 140), a doua dat\u0103,&nbsp;&nbsp;\u00een timpul primului r\u0103zboi mondial, c\u00e2nd Mihu\u0163u devenise c\u0103pitan de corvet\u0103 \u015fi c\u0103pitanul portului Constan\u0163a (p. 286). Am\u00e2ndoi vor participa la diverse manevre militare contra&nbsp;&nbsp;armatei germane care \u00eempreun\u0103 cu alia\u0163ii bulgari ocupaser\u0103 Dobrogea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Arom\u00e2nii din Rom\u00e2nia \u00eenaintea coloniz\u0103rii Cadrilaterului<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab&nbsp;C\u00e2nd am ajuns eu&nbsp;[\u00een 1900], Constan\u0163a era, de\u015fi foarte mic\u0103, un ora\u015f cosmopolit de tipul \u2018\u2019schelelor din Levant\u2019\u2019. \u00cen general, negustorii erau greci \u015fi armeni, ceva evrei, dar rom\u00e2nii macedoneni, de\u015fi veni\u0163i de cur\u00e2nd, s-au dovedit foarte ap\u0163i pentru comer\u0163 (ceea ce nu era cazul rom\u00e2nilor din Regat, to\u0163i sau aproape to\u0163i func\u0163ionari sau ofi\u0163eri) \u015fi au \u00eenceput s\u0103 se \u00eembog\u0103\u0163easc\u0103 (p. 100), noteaz\u0103 Matila Ghyka \u00een memorile sale redactate dup\u0103 al doilea r\u0103zboi mondial pornind de la propriul s\u0103u jurnal pe care \u00eel intitulase \u00ab&nbsp;Povestiri ml\u0103\u015ftinoase&nbsp;\u00bb.&nbsp;&nbsp; El manifest\u0103 un interes deosebit pentru arom\u00e2nii din Constan\u0163a \u00een perioda care precede colonizarea Cadrilaterului. Prezen\u0163a lor este scrupulos consemnat\u0103. Un exemplu&nbsp;: \u00ab&nbsp;Hotelul Europa avea un restaurant zgomotos unde (\u2026) \u00ee\u015fi f\u0103ceau apari\u0163ia cei c\u00e2\u0163iva macedo-rom\u00e2ni prosperi din Constan\u0163a, doctori, farmaci\u015fti ori negustori, lui Mihu\u0163u \u00eei f\u0103cea pl\u0103cere s\u0103 mi-i prezinte. Ca to\u0163i rom\u00e2nii din sudul Dun\u0103rii care nu fuseser\u0103 asimila\u0163i de cultura greceasc\u0103, el avea pentru greci, \u00een particular \u015fi \u00een general, o antipatie \u00eenn\u0103scut\u0103, singura excep\u0163ie fiind proprietarul hotelului cu care se tachina inofensiv\u2026&nbsp;\u00bb (P. 142.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vorbind despre societatea ie\u015fean\u0103, ea cuprindea \u00ab&nbsp;\u00een afar\u0103 de reprezentan\u0163ii boierimii p\u0103m\u00e2ntene \u015fi fanariote (greco-bizantine), un num\u0103r oarecare de familii grece\u015fti, macedonene sau epirote \u2013 venite \u00eentre secolul XVII-lea \u015fi \u00eenceputul celui de-al XIX-lea&nbsp;\u00bb (p. 30).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Gala\u0163i, \u00een timpul r\u0103zboiului, \u00eempreun\u0103 cu colegii de la Misiunea naval\u0103 francez\u0103, el frecventeaz\u0103 restaurantul \u00ab&nbsp;Macedonia&nbsp;\u00bb (\u0163inut, \u00ab&nbsp;desigur, de un arom\u00e2n&nbsp;\u00bb) (pp. 313-314). \u00ab&nbsp;Aristocra\u0163ia local\u0103&nbsp;[\u00een Bucovina]era format\u0103 de mici nobili austrieci \u015fi membrii ai vechilor familii de boieri autohtoni care optaser\u0103 \u00een 1777 pentru Austria ca s\u0103 nu-\u015fi piard\u0103 p\u0103m\u00e2nturile \u015fi primiser\u0103 de la Habsburgi titlurile de cavaler ori de baron, chiar de conte, potrivit str\u0103mo\u015filor sau averii. Erau \u015fi c\u00e2\u0163iva baroni armeni \u015fi macedo-rom\u00e2ni.&nbsp;\u00bb (P. 135.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nicolae Mi\u015fu \u015fi Ionel Br\u0103tianu<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nicolae Mi\u015fu<a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/64DF3E51-6279-4427-935E-60AD47FD8C37#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;va fi cel\u0103lalt \u00ab&nbsp;macedonean&nbsp;\u00bb cu care Matila Ghyka va avea o rela\u0163ie privilegiat\u0103 imediat dup\u0103 ce a fost numit la lega\u0163ia rom\u00e2n\u0103 de la Londra. Despre noul ambasador al Rom\u00e2niei \u00een Anglia, prezentat ca \u00ab&nbsp;cel mai remarcabil dintre diploma\u0163ii no\u015ftrii&nbsp;\u00bb, el scrie&nbsp;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u00ab&nbsp;Avea un chip cu tr\u0103s\u0103turi fine, dar energice, ochi negri p\u0103trunz\u0103tori, str\u0103lucind de inteligen\u0163\u0103, o expresie de m\u00e2ndrie ironic\u0103, disimulat\u0103 mai mult sau mai pu\u0163in de o curtoazie perfect\u0103 \u015fi \u00eenflorit\u0103. Aceste elemente pu\u0163in contradictorii ale firii lui se datorau faptului c\u0103 era rom\u00e2n macedonean. P\u0103rea s\u0103 aib\u0103 toate calit\u0103\u0163ile diplomatice ale orientalului, inclusiv viclenia aproape diabolic\u0103 dar f\u0103r\u0103 nici unul dintre defectele acestuia. Pentru mine a ajuns rapid \u015feful ideal. Ne \u00een\u0163elegeam evident de minune, poate din cauza ascenden\u0163ei noastre epirote \u015fi albaneze, dar e greu de \u00eenchipuit o curtoazie mai des\u0103v\u00e2r\u015fit\u0103, o experien\u0163\u0103 mai vast\u0103 at\u00e2t \u00een politica interna\u0163ional\u0103 c\u00e2t \u015fi \u00een politica balcanic\u0103, \u00een fine umorul \u015fi ironia foarte atr\u0103g\u0103toare oferite \u00een rela\u0163ia zilnic\u0103 cu acest om remarcabil.&nbsp;\u00bb (P. 264-265.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Doar doi delega\u0163i au avut dreptul s\u0103 participe \u00een numele Rom\u00e2niei la negocierile de pace de la Versailles \u00een 1919&nbsp;: Nicolae Mi\u015fu era unul dintre ei, cel\u0103lalt fiind Ionel Br\u0103tianu (1864-1927). Iat\u0103 pasajul pe care i-l consacr\u0103 celui din urm\u0103 Matila Ghyka:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab&nbsp;Ca origine, Br\u0103tienii erau macedo-rom\u00e2ni, asemenea multor personalit\u0103\u0163i interesante din Rom\u00e2nia. Am insistat deja asupra inteligen\u0163ei \u015fi tenacit\u0103\u0163ii macedo-rom\u00e2nilor \u00een general care \u015fi-au \u00eensu\u015fit unele din calit\u0103\u0163ile du\u015fmanilor lor, grecii.&nbsp;Str\u0103mo\u015ful lui Ionel Br\u0103tianu, Dima, a venit \u00een secolul al XVII-lea \u00een&nbsp;\u0162ara Rom\u00e2neasc\u0103 unde s-a c\u0103s\u0103torit cu mo\u015ftenitoarea familiei boiere\u015fti Br\u0103tianu, lu\u00e2ndu-i numele.&nbsp;\u00bb (P. 346.) Matila Ghyka se refer\u0103 probabil la Dima Grecul din Br\u0103tienii de Sus atestat \u00eentr-un act \u00eentocmit \u00een 1634<a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/64DF3E51-6279-4427-935E-60AD47FD8C37#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a>. Prin \u00ab&nbsp;Grecul&nbsp;\u00bb se \u00een\u0163elege mai degrab\u0103 \u00ab&nbsp;str\u0103inul&nbsp;\u00bb, acest termen generic desemn\u00e2nd nu numai pe greci \u015fi pe to\u0163i cei veni\u0163i de la sud de Dun\u0103re, mai ales cu comer\u0163ul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Un absent&nbsp;: Matila Costiescu senior<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contrastul este sesizant \u00eentre omniprezen\u0163a membrilor familiei Ghyka evoca\u0163i cu ocazia peregrin\u0103rilor memorialistului \u015fi absen\u0163a \u00een carte a referin\u0163elor la familia tat\u0103lui lui. Acesta din urm\u0103 nu este evocat dec\u00e2t de trei ori \u00een termeni foarte sumari. \u00ab&nbsp;Eram singurul copil la p\u0103rin\u0163i, divor\u0163a\u0163i pentru nepotrivire de caracter (se c\u0103s\u0103toriser\u0103 la 21 de ani), cur\u00e2nd dup\u0103 na\u015fterea mea.&nbsp;\u00bb (P. 26.) \u00ab&nbsp;Tata era \u00eenc\u0103 foarte t\u00e2n\u0103r, \u00een uniform\u0103 de maior de artilerie, eu adesea \u00een uniform\u0103 de aspirant, iar el era m\u00e2ndru s\u0103-\u015fi prezinte prietenilor \u015fi camarazilor un fiu deja ofi\u0163er&nbsp;&nbsp;pe care nu-l cunoscuse dec\u00e2t bebelu\u015f \u015fi copil&nbsp;\u00bb (p. 76), poveste\u015fte el cu ocazia primei sala vizite la Bucure\u015fti. At\u00e2t tat\u0103l, prenumit \u015fi el Matila, c\u00e2t \u015fi bunicul, Anton, erau militari de carier\u0103 cunoscu\u0163i \u00een vremea lor, u\u015for de identificat, ultimul ocup\u00e2nd spre exemplu un grad important \u00een francmasonerie.&nbsp;Pasajul care urmeaz\u0103 ne aduce informa\u0163ii pre\u0163ioase despre istoria pe linie patern\u0103 a memorialistului \u015fi explic\u0103 interesul lui pentru arom\u00e2ni&nbsp;:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab&nbsp;Camaraderia mea cu Mihu\u0163u s-a legat \u015fi mai mult nu numai fiindc\u0103, dup\u0103 mam\u0103, eram de origine albanez\u0103, dar dup\u0103 datele genealogice oferite de tat\u0103l meu, str\u0103bunicul meu venise din Epir pe la 1770, de fapt de la Ianina, ca mul\u0163i imigran\u0163i din acea vreme \u015fi, dup\u0103 ce a dob\u00e2ndit rangul de sluger (o mic\u0103 boierie), s-a \u00een\u0103l\u0163at \u00een treapt\u0103 dup\u0103 ce s-a c\u0103s\u0103torit cu o mo\u015ftenitoare din jude\u0163ul Buz\u0103u, care i-a adus ca zestre, \u00eentre alte mo\u015fii, Costie\u015ftii \u2013 fiii lui adopt\u00e2nd acest nume.&nbsp;Din aceast\u0103 pricin\u0103, Mihu\u0163u (Ianina era ora\u015ful sf\u00e2nt al macedo-rom\u00e2nilor din Epir) avea pentru mine devotamentul samuraiului fa\u0163\u0103 de \u015feful s\u0103u de clan \u015fi \u00eemi povestea toate am\u0103nuntele posibile despre tradi\u0163ile \u015fi via\u0163a rom\u00e2nilor din Macedonia \u015fi Epir.&nbsp;\u00bb (P. 142.)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nu numai erudit dar \u015fi observator realist al mediului social din care provenea, Matila Ghyka insist\u0103 pe rolul c\u0103s\u0103toriilor \u00een ascensiunea social\u0103 ulterioar\u0103 a noilor veni\u0163i, prezenta\u0163i explicit ca imigran\u0163i.&nbsp;Aparent, \u00een cazul tat\u0103lui s\u0103u biologic, descendent \u015fi el din nou veni\u0163ii cu un secol \u00eenainte, eventuala promo\u0163ie sociale gra\u0163ie c\u0103s\u0103toriei cu o Ghyka nu a avut loc. Anturajul Mariei&nbsp;Ghyka&nbsp;a pus repede cap\u0103t \u00ab&nbsp;mezalian\u0163ei&nbsp;\u00bb organiz\u00e2nd divor\u0163ul pu\u0163in dup\u0103 na\u015fterea copilului.
